How the PokerOddz calculator works

The calculator's inputs, simulation model, assumptions, rounding behavior, and important limitations.

PokerOddz estimates outcomes by constructing legal card completions from the cards entered by the user. Known hole and board cards are removed from a standard 52-card deck. Unknown opponent cards and remaining community cards are then sampled without replacement, and completed hands are evaluated using the best five-card poker hand available from each player's cards.

What one trial does

  1. Start with a fresh deck and remove every known card.
  2. Deal two unknown cards to each active modeled opponent.
  3. Deal enough community cards to complete a five-card board.
  4. Evaluate each player's best five-card combination.
  5. Record a win, loss, or tie, then repeat with a newly shuffled unknown deck.

Reading the output

Win, tie, and loss percentages are the corresponding trial counts divided by the total number of trials. Monte Carlo estimates vary slightly between runs. More trials generally reduce random sampling noise but do not fix an unrealistic assumption. Display rounding can also cause the three shown percentages to differ slightly from exactly 100%.

Assumptions and limitations

  • Unknown opponent cards are modeled from available cards, not inferred from human behavior.
  • The tool does not know betting history, stack sizes, pot size, position, rake, or tournament payouts.
  • Opponent labels and notes do not change the underlying card distribution.
  • Results are estimates for the entered scenario and are not forecasts of a particular future hand.
  • The action-style score is a configurable teaching heuristic, not game-theory-optimal advice.

A reproducible sanity check

On a flop with a four-card flush and nine unseen suit cards, the observed frequency of completing that flush by the river should settle near 34.97% over a sufficiently large sample when no competing-card constraints change the count. Comparing a simulation with this closed-form result is a useful test of deck removal and dealing.
